[Music| Aerosmith - Dream On]

Yeah, so it's a new weekend, and I'm going to talk about last weekend. So what?

Memorial Day Weekend was, well, memorable. Saturday we went to a far off farmer's market/antique show. It would have pleased Lileks, filled with nostalgia from years long since past. And I'm into that kind of thing myself, so it was really cool. If I know Lileks (which I don't aside from what he's written at his site), he would have beamed over the box of comic books. And, best yet, it was relatively small, so once I was bored with the place, we were done. After that, we went to the movie theater like I said in my previous blog, and saw "Changing Lanes". Once more, an excellent movie.

Sunday, I slept. And that was about it.

Memorial Day was great. We went to the horse track, parents won money, a good time was had by all. And I ate a lot. Good food there this year. Canterberry Park has really stepped up from last year in all departments, with some very great, very noticiable changes. I await going back, which I've never said before.

We then headed down to Harriet Island in St. Paul for the Memorial Day celebration, which has been advertized endlessly, touting the biggest fireworks display in state history. Considering we've had the fourth largest display in the country last year, that's very impressive.

It wasn't. They were basic fireworks. There was music to go along with the fireworks, and the two didn't match up well until the end. Throw in some very corny September 11th tie-ins, including THREE Bush speech clips, and it just wasn't good. But the finale was superb, which I suppose makes up for a lackluster beginning. And the band they hired to play before the fireworks was excellent, doing some great covers. The highlight had to have been their cover of Eminem's "Without Me," which I hate. But actually love. It totally surprized everyone, and it was excellently done.

Got home post-Midnight. Slept right away.

What's up for this weekend? Why, it's the church carnival at the church across the street (which just happens to be the church I go to). The carnival has always marked the beginning of summer for me. There's no feeling like the one I get seeing everything all set up across the street there and know good times are coming. And indeed they are.
